Ada’itsx/Fairy Creek - Solar Power to Protect Indigenous Youth

2022

Sacred Earth Solar sent several sets of solar panels for Indigenous youth on the frontlines of Ada’itsx/Fairy Creek, in addition to satellite communications. These solar panels were used to help power the kitchen, and to charge devices so that land defenders could have some measure of communication in areas with no cell service in very remote areas, during months of police brutality. The solar kits that Sacred Earth Solar sent were equipped with everything that they would need to set them up, including batteries, inverters and necessary components to run off-grid solar systems. Sacred Earth Solar coordinated with other Indigenous relatives in nearby places to deliver the kits for installation. Sacred Earth Solar also provided a drone that was shared amongst BIPOC land defenders to assist in documenting the front lines.

Melina also joined Indigenous leaders, celebrities, scientists, and environmental activists to hold the B.C. government accountable to their campaign promises to stop logging the last remaining giant trees in Ada’itsx/Fairy Creek.
